The Middleman Era is Ending

Back in college, I was desperate to earn. Not pocket money — real money. The kind that pays rent, buys books, and doesn't come with a “ask your parents” disclaimer.

I tried everything the internet told me to. Remote work, freelancing platforms, those “earn ₹50,000/month from home” schemes. Every single one of them felt like a dead end. Some asked for upfront fees. Some asked me to “invest first.” Some just disappeared after taking my money. I lost my hard-earned savings chasing fancy promises on the internet — and not a single one gave me real work or real money.

Then one day, someone told me about event staffing work happening across Delhi-NCR. You show up, you work at real events, and you get paid. Sounded too good to be true — especially after everything I'd been through. But I had nothing to lose. I applied. I gave the interview. And somehow, I got selected.

My first event was scheduled a week later. It was 60-70 km away from home. Reporting time: 8 AM. The first metro starts at 6 AM. I did the math — if I caught the very first metro, I'd make it just in time.

I reached 20 minutes late.

The event coordinator didn't listen to a single word. No excuse. No second chance. He told me to go back home. I stood there on the roadside — broke, exhausted, 70 km from my bed — and I cried. I genuinely felt like a failure. I wanted to quit right there.

But I didn't.

A few days later, I got another shot. An event at Google. I couldn't believe it — me, a regular college student, walking into a Google event as part of the crew. I gave it everything I had. It was a 3-day event. At the end of the month, ₹5,000 hit my bank account. My own money. Earned by showing up and doing real work.

I still remember that feeling. It changed something inside me.

I started taking weekend events seriously. I figured out how to juggle events with my college's 75% attendance requirement. One event became five. Five became twenty. Slowly, event work became my financial backbone — I earned a genuinely good amount while still being a full-time college student.

That hit hard. Not just for me — for every single student standing next to me at those events. All of us doing the same work. All of us getting cheated the same way.
